In 1933, Dr. Bussière built this stone watchtower to serve as his private dispensary. The ground floor was designated as the waiting and consultation area, the first floor as the treatment room, and the second floor as the medicine storage, together forming a fully functional medical facility. Throughout his 41 years in China, Dr. Bussière treated patients regardless of their status, whether they were dignitaries or ordinary people. He practiced medicine in bustling cities and remote villages alike. Local people called him “Lao Bei,” an affectionate term for “Old Bussière.” Behind this unassuming name there lies a physician’s boundless compassion.
